Note: many of our writings are public, but being that we are writing on the internet, some of our more juicy or personal posts (especially much of A's writing) are restricted. If you are a friend, family member or acquaintance and would like to read all of our writings, public and private, simply create a free livejournal account (or OpenID*) and send us an e-mail telling us your username. What is this blog?

This is a blog we created to chronicle our time and travels abroad, and keep in touch with our family and friends. In September 2007, after almost a year of travel and living in Asia, we have settled down for an indefinite period in Lahore, Pakistan. Devin is pursuing Human Rights work while Amber is doing independent research and writing on, among other topics, issues of gender and sexuality.

So, where have you gone anyway?

We landed in Bangkok on 17 October, 2006. Our travels took us to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Then it was on to India for 7 months. Originally we planned to go to live in Bolivia in fall 2007, but after an impromptu visit to Pakistan in summer of 2007, we decided to return in fall of 2007.

Who are Elephant and Kitty?

Once on a trip to lands not-so-foreign to us (Washington D.C.), Amber attempted to keep Devin from falling asleep at the wheel by telling him what was meant to be a very short story about two creatures: Elephant and Kitty. They are animals from very different cultures who met accidentally one day and instantly became fast friends. Elephant and Kitty had a mind of their own and a ten-minute story wasn’t enough for them. The two characters insisted on a so-far-never-ending saga of adventures that are still in progress.

Which one of you is Elephant and which is Kitty?

Neither. Elephant and Kitty have unique and quirky personalities, but they are not meant to be avatars of us.

So why is the blog called “adventures of elephant and kitty?”

Hmmm… good question. While we are not literally Elephant and Kitty, they have many adventures and so will we. If Elephant and Kitty ever decide that they want their own blog to chronicle their adventures in the forest and savanna, we’re screwed!
